Jailbreak iPhone 3.1.2 Firmware with blackra1n

Unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.2 news from GeoHot that has just released for Mac BlackRa1n, the tool that allows you to run unlock and jailbreak iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.2. The method of GeoHot can unlock iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.2 firmware installed directly on the device and therefore does not create a custom firmware, unlike PwnageTool. Below is the first guide to be able to run unlock and jailbreak iPhone 3G/3Gs/3.1.2.

Note for iPhone 3G and 3GS: Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 with blackra1n if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.

Step 1: Download latest version of iTunes.

Step 2: You will now need to first update/restore to the original iPhone OS firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone by using the latest version of iTunes.

Step 3: Download blackra1n for Windows

Step 4: Start blackra1n app. Run the app with “Windows XP Compatibility” mode (Windows 7 or Vista) by enabling it from the “Properties” tab to avoid any errors during the jailbreak process.

Step 5: Click on “make it ra1n”:

Step 6: Wait for the phone to automatically reboot.

Step 7: "blackra1n” would be in the list of applications on your iPhone. Run “blackra1n”, download Cydia.

Step 8: Now Reboot your iPhone. You should now have fully jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch running on firmware 3.1.2.
