Both SIM cards bought on gym instructor’s lost driving licence, say police

The unidentified person who had sent threatening text messages to Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor had bought two SIM cards on April 3 based on a lost driving licence and sent similar messages to 12 MPs, sources said on Wednesday.

According to sources in Delhi Police’s Special Cell, which is now investigating the SMS sent to Tharoor, the suspect had sent malicious and threatening text message to Rajya Sabha MP Mahmood A Madani on Tuesday (see adjoining report).

Similar text messages were sent to CPI(M) leader and Rajya Sabha member Brinda Karat, Lok Sabha MP from East Delhi Sandeep Dikshit and Siwan MP Om Prakash Yadav, among others .

The SMS sent to Tharoor, purportedly from “D-company”, threatened to kill him unless he apologised to IPL commissioner Lalit Modi. The minister and Modi are embroiled in a row over ownership of the Kochi IPL team.
