Shen Neng 1 Ship
Shen Neng 1 (simplified Chinese: 深能一号; traditional Chinese: 深能一號; pinyin: shén néng yī hào[1]) is a Chinese bulk carrier which was built in 1993 as Bestore. She was sold in 2007 and renamed Shen Neng 1. In 2010, she ran aground off Great Keppel Island, Australia spilling oil into Great Barrier Reef waters.
Unloading coal from Shen Neng 1 'making steady progress'
Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) says there has been steady progress in unloading coal from the Shen Neng 1 in Hervey Bay in south-east Queensland.
The ship-to-ship transfer of about 19,000 tonnes of coal began on Wednesday night.
The Chinese carrier ran aground on the Great Barrier Reef at Easter.
MSQ spokesman Patrick Quirk says the transfer could take at least two weeks.
"The cargo discharge commenced very slowly just after sunset last night, roughly about 7 o'clock, and continued through some of the night-time," he said.
"We stopped momentarily for a few hours this morning when the wind came up from the south-west a little bit, but we've recommenced operations now and to date ... we've discharged just over 1,000 tonnes of coal."
